En une vingtaine d'années, le moustique tigre a été détecté dans plus de 80 départements. Il n'était présent que dans un seul en 2004.

La transmission autochtone de la dengue serait théoriquement possible dans toutes les zones colonisées par ce moustique, hormis les plaines du nord de l’Hexagone, soit 71% à 95% de la métropole.

Si plusieurs facteurs ont contribué à la propagation rapide du moustique-tigre depuis son arrivée en 2004, une étude estime que la quasi-totalité des changements à venir dans l’aire de répartition du moustique et dans le risque de transmission de la dengue seront attribuables au changement climatique.

Deux nouveaux cas de chikungunya ont été détectés dans le Tarn ce 13 août 2026. Ils s'ajoutent aux quinze cas déjà existants dans le département et en Gironde, ainsi que deux cas de Dengue dans le Tarn et l'Hérault. Des maladies importées par le moustique tigre, qui s'installe et colonise petit à petit dans l'Hexagone.
