Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced on Aug. 28 that Kyiv has petitioned the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to exclude Ukraine’s territory from the service areas of the Russian military satellite system “Rassvet.” Sybiha stated the system is used solely to support Russia’s war effort and urged international partners to block it over their own territories. Rassvet, developed by Bureau 1440 as a domestic alternative to Starlink, has faced recent technical failures in...

The second batch of Russian Rassvet satellites appears to have failed to reach their planned operational altitudes in space, marking another setback in Moscow’s efforts to rapidly deploy a Russian analogue to Starlink.

    • Kyiv Post (Ukraine)15:58

Russia’s second batch of 16 Rassvet satellites failed to reach its intended operational altitude, creating setback in Moscow’s effort to develop an alternative to Starlink, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported. Some satellites are already losing altitude, with at least two reportedly heading toward reentry into Earth’s atmosphere. ISW said Russia lacks the launch capacity needed to rapidly establish stable, around-the-clock satellite coverage over Ukraine.
