V poslední době zesílilo útoky na válkou již tak ohrožený knižní trh – během léta zničilo ve skladech či tiskárnách třetinu roční produkce ukrajinských nakladatelů včetně velké části učebnic. Představitelé odvětví varují před kolapsem sektoru, který by Ukrajině vzal právo mluvit vlastním hlasem.

Téměř 12 milionů ukrajinských knih shořelo kvůli ruským útokům. Za prázdniny tak Rusko zdevastovalo třetinu knih vytištěných v tomto roce. Útokům se nevyhnuly ani školní učebnice. Asi 1,5 milionu výtisků shořelo v červenci a 10 milionů v srpnu. Rusku se podařilo zničit celý náklad učebnic pro některé předměty. Prázdniny jsou pravděpodobně nejhoršími měsíci v historii ukrajinského knižního trhu.

Zaznělo to na knižním festivalu BookForum, který se konal minulý víkend ve Lvově. Jen během července a začátku srpna shořelo okolo deseti milionů ukrajinských knih více než třiceti nakladatelství.
