Today is Royal Navy Day and the forecast had been for a reasonably solid north-westerly wind but, with the weather somewhat warmer than predicted, the breeze was full of holes and the tide was building from the west.

Five Redwings and seven One-Designs started on time from Janson in a brisk (12 to 15 knots) SE'erly breeze. The course for the former was Tara, Derrick twice to port finishing at Under Tyne.

There is something special about taking a boat out of the Bristol Channel and into offshore waters. During the last week in June four Portishead Cruising Club boats made the epic voyage across the Irish Sea to race in Cork Week.

Twenty-four hours into the 2026 RORC Round Britain and Ireland Race, the fleet is stretched along the English Channel and approaching the next major strategic test to round Land's End and the Isles of Scilly.

The second Friday Series concluded, seeing 24 boats on the water racing in YTC and IRC in the gorgeous waters of Plymouth Sound. Whilst the weather was mostly light to middling, the fleets were lucky to not lose any races to the conditions.

A day that began with classic Lake Garda conditions ended in dramatic fashion on Thursday as the notorious Ponale wind returned to disrupt the 2026 Cadet World Championship in Torbole. Race 7 was completed successfully for both fleets.

It's said that a sailor's reputation is built not on the races won, but on the rules respected. If this is the case, the reputation of the RS300 fleet took hell of a battering on Saturday along with some gelcoat!

Three races were completed on Thursday despite tricky, ever-changing conditions. Racing started at 11:00 as scheduled in 16–19 knots of wind and a metre of swell, but the breeze swung up and down between 7 and 19 knots throughout the afternoon.
